Roulette for Beginners

Roulette comes from the French language, meaning ‘little wheel’ – it’s easy to understand and visually attractive, and consequently hugely popular. Players bet on the landing position of a ball bearing thrown into a slowly-turning wheel that contains 37 or 38 identical compartments, 36 of which are alternately coloured black and red. marked cards india

Bets are placed on a grid next to the wheel, containing the numbers 1 to 36 in 3 rows of 12. The most basic bet is the Straight Up bet, made on an individual number coming up – and if it does you’ll win 36 times your stake, though you’ll need to bet on quite a few different numbers every spin to stand a decent chance of that happening – so you’re also allowed to make other bets that offer lower odds:

Split bets are placed on the line dividing 2 compartments on the grid, with half your stake bet on each number; similarly you can also make a Corner bet, spreading your chips between 4 numbers.

You can also make a Street bet, on a row of 3 numbers paying 11 to 1; Column bets on a line of 12 numbers paying 2 to 1, or there’s also Dozen bets, made on numbers 1 to 12, 13 to 24 or 25 to 36 and also paying 2 to 1.

Low/High bets are made on numbers from 1 to 18 or 19 to 36 and pay evens, as do colour bets and Even/Odd bets. There are also either 1 or 2 green compartments in the wheel bearing 1 or 2 zeroes: You can bet on these with the same odds as any other single number, though as the odds on any single number are always 35 to 1 the casino has a house edge by including the zeroes on the wheel.

Roulette is very much a game of chance with little opportunity for strategic play: Players often select numbers based on their close relatives’ birthdays or similar, though obviously you need to make sure you’re not risking too much of your bankroll on individual spins. The way to really give yourself an advantage is by selecting the best version to play:

American Roulette has 2 green compartments, whereas the European version only has one – this dramatically improves your chances. In some French games they reduce it even more by letting you keep half your stake if the ball lands in the zero slot when you make an even bet – this is known as La Partage, and is worth looking out for.

So, be sure to pick a single zero game – after that there’s not much else to think about, so try out a few different bets and enjoy… Visit Casinoscout.co.uk for more information on casino, casino tips, casino offers, casino bonus, casino reviews and many more.
